APPLE CAKE
FINALLY HERE - the recipe you've all been waiting for...
This cake is outstanding warm with some Mapleton’s Vanilla Ice Cream*. It was one of the most popular items featured at our “Apple Fest”.
• 5 cups apples,* unpeeled and chopped
• 1 1/3 cups sugar
Combine and let stand while mixing other ingredients.
• ½ cup oil
• 2 eggs*
• 2 tsp vanilla
Combine in a separate bowl.
• 1 cup whole wheat flour*
• 1 cup all-purpose flour*
• 2 tsp baking soda
• 2 tsp ground cinnamon
• 1 tsp salt
• 1 cup nuts (optional), [I like pecans best]
Combine in a third bowl. Stir flour mixture into apples alternately with egg mixture. Pour into a greased 9 x 12 inch baking pan. Bake in a preheated oven at 350F, 50 – 60 minutes (until toothpick comes out clean).
• 2/3 cup brown sugar
• ¼ cup milk or cream
• 1 Tbsp flour*
While cake bakes, heat to boiling, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat.
• 1/3 cup powdered sugar.
Mix in. Drizzle over hot cake.
